Instantly Deliver Unparalleled Immersive Experiences with Unreal Engine 5 and PureWeb
When I was a teenager, my parents rented me a Nintendo 64 from Blockbuster video. I’d been gaming for years, but I had never experienced true 3D gaming. When I fired up Mario 64 I was blown away by the amazing color, 3-axes of movement, and amazing visual fidelity. It was so far beyond my expectations that it was nearly unbelievable. I called my best friend on the phone and exclaimed “games will never look better than this!”. Boy was I wrong.
Epic Games has been teasing the release of Unreal Engine 5 for nearly two years – on April 5th, they released it to the world. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been unreasonably excited by the promise of this new toolset. Everything from the initial Valley of the Ancients tech demo, to the recent Matrix Awakens demo, completely upended my expectations for what was possible in a game. I’m in awe of what they have achieved, and I’m incredibly excited to see what people build with this new engine.
There are big improvements introduced in UE5. Epic’s fully dynamic global illumination in the form of Lumen, combined with the extraordinary level of fidelity offered by the new Nanite rendering system, combine to create some of the most breathtaking virtual environments ever rendered in real time.
In the coming weeks we're going to start to see creators apply these new technologies across myriad use cases – for industries such as real estate, consumer goods, AEC, automotive & transportation, virtual events, and more – to push the limits of what’s possible with immersive 3D experiences. And, as always, those creators are going to need a way to ensure that as many people as possible have access to their creations.
To that end, I’m happy to announce that as of today, PureWeb Reality is the only streaming platform to provide first-class support needed for scaling Pixel Streaming with UE5.
For existing PureWeb Reality users who have UE5 projects you want to distribute, simply upload your model to our console as per usual. Regardless of whether you are using our On Demand, Scheduled, or Hybrid deployment options, the same workflows from 4.27 now apply to 5.0.
Given the scale and scope of changes in UE5, our team is continuing to work through some edge cases, to ensure that UE5 Pixel Streaming on PureWeb is the best streaming experience to date.
